As a child my mother took pride in making sure my sister and I received the proper nutrients and foods that we would need to grow and become strong and healthy. Not only did she supply us with natural foods for our bodies but she also imparted into us her wisdom.
Now today I am not talking about natural food although we all have heard the saying you are what you eat and that does not only apply to the natural foods we eat but also to the things we watch, listen to, and who we surround ourselves with.
But I am talking about food for your mind, your spirit, and your soul.
As you can see here I have two baby bottles one filled with junk and one with formula. I am not a mother but I do know that I would never feed my baby or anyone else’s child in my care junk.
Just like we are cautious about feeding our babies and feeding our children we need to be just as thoughtful about feeding ourselves.
As adults unless we have specific goals we don’t take the time out to refill our cup. Especially women by nature we are givers and nurturers and will give and give of ourselves until we are empty.
But it’s important to take time for ourselves to continually grow. Continuously nurture, cultivate, and develop our minds and souls.
The process of feeding ourselves is allowing others are not much difference than feeding a baby.
First: You will weed out the things that are not good. Things that maybe toxic or does not agree with him or her. For us as adults it would be things such as certain movies, music, TV shows, and relationships to name a few.
Second: Babies have mommies and daddies to nurture and feed them. For the adults we seek out mentors. In the Word of God it talks about as iron sharpens iron. We need to find people who will sharpen us. Bring out the best in us and tell us the truth to that we need to hear that will take us to the next level. Which I do believe we have that here at Toastmasters. We are all mentors to each other in some way shape or form. I also want you to know that your mentors do not have to be hands on. We have it all from iPods to iphones from the internet & Skype to podcasts we are without excuses. You can utilize some many different instruments to be able to see and hear from the best of the best. As Mary Kay used to say hitch your wagon to a star. And eventually you will earn the right and privilege to be able to call them your friend.
Three: Eat all your food. Definitely invest your time in eating the rights things not only for your profession but also for areas of weakness in your life money management, time management, cooking, relationships, spiritual growth, etc. By making a decisive decision to feed and develop yourself you will serve the world a better you.
Finally create a nurturing environment. Just like seeds need the right environment to grow us as adults need the right environment to grow? Be mindful of the people you select as your inner circle. If they are not as committed to learning and growing you may need to bring out the weed eater and cut them loose.
